August 21, 2020

Dear P3 families,

Welcome to our (unusual) 2020-2021 school year! We are so excited that your family is embarking on this journey with us.

I want to reiterate that we are committed to making this remote portion of our year as loving and academically robust as possible. As you know, once the Covid numbers in King County drop and stabilize, we plan to begin to return to class (All safety protocols in place, including small groups of students, socially distanced, and masked.)

But for now, we would love to get to know you and to give you an opportunity to get to know each other. Would you please submit a family photo to me via email. Please label all family members, left to right (pets are fine, too!). Please submit this photo by next Wednesday, August 26 and we’ll put it into an album type document to be shared among the class.  *We would love a hard copy of this photo as well. (this can be dropped off at our upcoming meeting)

Attached to this note, you will find a Student Emergency Information form to download, print and fill out. Please return this when you come to your upcoming meet and greet. We would like to have this on file for when the children return to school in person.

Speaking of Meet and Greet, you will soon receive  the link to sign up. Please choose a time during the week of August 31.  ( If none of these blocks work for you, just email me.)  This will come to you in an email from the Big School and I will also forward the link.

**If you have not done so in the past, please be sure to send your email to the following address to be sure that you receive notifications from the Big School:

mailing-list@holyrosaryws.org

Thank you for your survey responses. I am attaching our tentative schedule, which has been created thanks to your feedback. We will adjust this accordingly to meet the needs of the children.

We’ve got so much to share and imagine that you have many questions. We look forward to talking at our upcoming meeting. In the meantime, reach out anytime!

Warmly,

Tauna, Sara, and Sister

Happy summer, wonderful P3 families! We want to take this moment to thank you for your absolutely amazing support this year, particularly over the past months of “home schooling”. You have been so dedicated, patient, and kind through all of it. I have loved the videos, photos, FaceTimes, and participation in Zoom meetings. Thank you for your efforts to keep in touch. This is such a special class. I am SO excited to work with your darling children next year in Pre-K!

Have a wonderful summer filled with love, family, friendship, and time outdoors in our beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Love to each of you!

Tauna, Sister, and Sara

Literacy ~

For today’s alphabet review, play “Hop to it!” You write letters on the sidewalk with chalk. You say a letter and your child hops over to it.

Go for a rhyme walk. While you are out, you say a word and help your child help you come up with a rhyming word. It can be a real word or a “silly” (nonsense) word.

Today’s story – Froggy’s Day With Dad, by Jonathan London.

Music ~ Rhyme, which children’s music is filled with, is really important for pre-reading. Today, and throughout the summer, enjoy listening to some of our favorites by Jim Gill, Raffi, Mr. Stinkypants, Caspar Babypants and others. Your child will be having fun while building their reading foundation.

Math ~ Today, we have another optional worksheet for your child. Here, they will identify which item differs from the others, then have some fun cutting and gluing.

I also suggest keeping your math 1-10 flash cards handy. Today would be a good day to get them out and use them at snack time. You hold up a card and your child takes that many items (raisins, goldfish, etc). If possible, refer to these cards throughout the summer as well.

I am attaching an optional set of flash cards for you to print for use during the summer if you would like.

Faith Formation ~Please join us for Sister Juanita’s Zoom today at 11:00.

Preschool-8 Materials Drop Off And Pick Up

On Thursday, June 11th and Friday, June 12th, we will be collecting school materials that the students have taken home and RETURNING their personal items. This will be an involved process as parents and students are not able to come into the school at this time. To assist everyone in social distancing, a staff member will come to your car to collect textbooks, library books, electronics, CYO uniforms and anything else your child’s teacher has requested. You will then be given a bag with your child’s items. Below, you will find your assigned time listed by the first two letters of your last name. We ask that you arrive during your 30-minute window and park in front of the school.  Please have your child’s school items in a bag labeled with their name.  If you have more than one child, please put their items in separate bags labeled with each of their names. You will receive more detailed instructions from your child’s homeroom teacher. Thank you for your patience during this process.

Review the letter Z.

Review the sound for Z ~ /z/

Today your child will work on the Z practice writing page. (attached to email)

I am attaching a short Z letter formation video to today’s email.

Do “Rainbow Letters” by tracing the Z in several different colors.

Upon completion, have them write their name on the page.

Today’s story – The Enormous Egg, by Leo Lionni

Music ~ Have some fun with Caspar Babypants today. So many fun and silly songs that will get your child moving and dancing.

Math ~ Counting Fish ~ Today, your child has a worksheet to complete (attached). Show your child how to draw a very simple fish. I suggest an oval with a simple triangle type tail. They can add details if they want to. You’ll want to talk about drawing them small enough so that they all fit on the page. This is tricky. They need to keep track of the fish as they draw them. This will give your child lots of counting practice.

Faith Formation ~ Please join us at 11:00 for Sister’s Zoom meeting!

Show and tell of the activity you did for Pentecost.

– blow bubbles

– show a kite

– show your pinwheel

– show a fan

  2. Ask: What is Pentecost? Pentecost is the 50th day of Easter, we celebrate the coming down of the Holy Spirit, and we celebrate the birthday of the Church.
  3. End with prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for sending your Holy Spirit to be with us. We know the Holy Spirit will help us be your followers. We want to love and care and forgive as you did. Please bless us and all our families and friends. We love you, Jesus. Amen.
  4. Notice the air or the wind blowing the leaves as you take a walk this weekend to remind you of the Holy Spirit that comes to us on Pentecost Day.

Math ~

Begin today’s lesson with the short counting video, which is attached.

Number writing – (9 worksheet attached to email)– As always, no pressure here.  Have your child color and count the snails. Then try the 9 writing practice at the bottom of the page.  9’s are tricky. As with letters, it’s important that your child learn correct formation. You’ll begin at the arrow and write the “little curve”, then up, then straight down. No worries at all if you want to skip this part. We’ll work on this in Pre-K.

Today, practice counting up to 9 items.

You will find an optional shape review worksheet today.

Faith Formation ~ Pentecost Activity Day: Point out that the Holy Spirit fills us with God’s love, like air in bubbles. We cannot see the Holy Spirit but the Holy Spirit makes us alive, like the wind that makes a pinwheel, a kite or other things move.

Here are the options:

  1. Blow bubbles together.
  2. Make a Pinwheel.
  3. Fly a Kite.

Math ~ This week, we will work on the number 9. As an introduction, you will find a big 9 attached to today’s email. Have your child cut it out and decorate it.   (Tricky cutting again today, so I assume most children will need a bit of guidance here.)

Once again this week, I suggest getting out in the backyard, or going for a neighborhood walk in search of 9s. Can you find:

9 rocks that would fit in your hand?

9 huge rocks that are too heavy to lift?

9 insects?

9 trees?

There is also an optional cut, match, and color page.

If you missed the Zoom meeting, here is another option.

  1. Read to your child the Pentecost story:

Mary, Jesus’ mother, and many of Jesus’ friends had gathered together in one place. Jesus wasn’t with them anymore. He had gone back to God,
his Father. Mary and Jesus’ friends missed having Jesus with them. They were praying together when suddenly there was a noise like a strong wind. It filled the house where they were staying. Tongues of fire appeared and rested on each of them. They were filled with the Holy Spirit. They began to
talk about Jesus and his Father. People all over Jerusalem came to listen to them. Now that Jesus’ friends had his Spirit, they felt happy and brave. They began to tell everyone about Jesus and about how good God is.

Activity: Make a wind movement by fanning your child with a piece of paper or a real fan. Tell your child that the wind or the air that we breathe reminds us that the Holy Spirit is with us. Conclude by praying, “Thank you Jesus for sending us the Holy Spirit. Amen.”

Say, “Let’s close our eyes. Picture in your mind someone you want to pray for and say a little prayer silently.” (Pause.)

End your prayer with: Dear Jesus, our good friend, you blessed the Apostles. Then you were lifted up and a cloud covered you, and no one could see you. Yet we know you are still near. Thank you for being with us, even when we can’t see you! Amen.

Review the letter V.

Review the sound for V ~ /v/

Today your child will work on the V practice writing page. (attached to email)

You will also find a short V writing introduction video in today’s email.

Fun Music for today:

Raffi’s Baa Baa Black Sheep or Mr. Sun

Today’s story – (link in email) Crazy Day at the Critter Café. This lends itself perfectly to a discussion about how a good fiction story will have a problem. How was this problem resolved?

Math ~ Continue counting items 0-5 and higher. Please model for your child as you go. Move each item as you count it.

Today is a great day to review numbers 0-10 with your number cards, similar to last Thursday. Hold up a card and have your child tell you the number. Then, have them count out that many objects. Begin by focusing on 0-5. Move on to 6-10 only if your child is still engaged. I certainly don’t want to put stress on you or your child.

I am attaching a count and graph worksheet today for those of you who are interested.

Faith Formation ~

Hope to see you at 11:00 for Zoom with Sister!

Math ~

Number writing – 5 – This is so tricky. You may want to begin by having your child watch the short video (included in email). Learning to write numbers at this time is optional, so if your child is resisting or seeming frustrated, I would just let it go and allow them to color the page.  It’s really much more important that they begin to recognize the number and become able to count 5 items at this point.

Go outside and play a modified version of your shape game. You draw shapes on the sidewalk, then give your child instructions:

Take 5 huge steps to the oval.

Take 5 hops to the rectangle.

Take 5 tiny steps to the circle.

Etc…

Faith Formation ~

The Good Shepherd or Good Shepherd Hat

Direction: Cut out the shepherd and the two sheep on page 4. Tape your child’s cutout shepherd so it stands; the sheep simply need to be creased on the dotted lines. Help your child print their name on one sheep and the name of a friend or family member on the other sheep. See picture.

Option: A Good Shepherd Hat

Direction: Use the pattern to trace two ears. Attach the ears to a paper strip. Add cotton balls if you wish.

Please refer to your letter formation chart. Here are the steps:

Big line down.

Little line across the top. (Be sure this is one solid line starting on the left side rather than two tiny lines coming out from the middle)

Fun Music for today:

Raffi’s The More We Get Together or Brush Your Teeth.  Or, get your child moving with Jim Gill’s The Tempo Marches On or

Silly Dance Contest.

I’ve included a link to a story in the email today. Talk with your child about the problem in the story.

Math ~

Since this is our last class day before Easter, I think it would be fun to revisit Egg Counting and Number Recognition.

Gather 10 plastic eggs (Or substitute any item here if you don’t have eggs)

Practice counting using 1:1 correspondence – (move each egg as you count it)

Did you make number cards to go with this activity last week? If so, please get these out. If not, you can make some by writing numbers 0-10 on index cards, or index card sized papers. Hold up a card. Have your child count out that many eggs. Continue doing this with different numbers.  This will help your child with both number recognition and counting.

Place small items (goldfish, cheerios, etc) in each egg. Have your child choose an egg and count the items inside.

Now, put a number card in each egg. Have your child choose an egg and identify the number inside.

Just for fun, now take the eggs out to the yard for another practice egg hunt.

Faith Formation ~

Triduum blessings! We are now entering into the three most important last days of Jesus’ life on earth called TRIDUUM. It starts on the Last Supper of Jesus and his first friends and ends on Easter. Today you will:

Math ~

Have your child create an egg pattern. You can draw the ovals and your child can color them in, or your child can draw and color them. Create an AB pattern. For example, green-yellow, green-yellow, green-yellow. Wanting to do more? Talk about AAB patterns – pink-pink-blue, pink-pink-blue, etc… Do you have sidewalk chalk? Create some egg patterns outside on the sidewalk.

Shape Scavenger Hunt – Get a piece of thick paper, (an old cereal box or something from recycle?) and cut out shapes: Square, triangle, rectangle, circle, oval, diamond, (add more if you’d like). Put them in a paper bag. Go outside (or of course, you can do this indoors). Have your child pull a shape out of the bag and try to find it.  You could take a picture of the item found? Draw the item? Etc.

Faith Formation ~

This Holy Week if possible, create a prayer corner at home if you don’t have one already. You might place a candle on the table, or set a cross in front of you. Invite your child to join you in quietly preparing for prayer.

Today I pray for _____________ that he/she/they will feel better. In Jesus name. Amen.

+ In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Science ~

Baking Soda & Vinegar Volcano

Use baking soda and vinegar to create an awesome chemical reaction! Watch as it rapidly fizzes over the container and make sure you’ve got some towels ready to clean up.

What you’ll need:

  • Baking Soda (make sure it’s not baking powder)
  • Vinegar
  • A container to hold everything and avoid a big mess!
  • Paper towels or a cloth (just in case)

Instructions:

  1. Place some of the baking soda into your container.
  2. Pour in some of the vinegar
  3. Watch as the reaction takes place!
  4. If you want to get creative, you and your child can make a container to look like a real volcano. Perhaps playdoh around a cup? Or, I’ve seen this done in a hollowed out apple.

What’s happening?

The baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is a base while the vinegar (acetic acid) is an acid. When they react together they form carbonic acid which is very unstable, it instantly breaks apart into water and carbon dioxide, which creates all the fizzing as it escapes the solution.

Review the letter S.

Review the sound for S ~ /s/

Today your child will work on the S practice writing page. I am attaching it to the email, or if you were able to swing by school and get your items, you’ve already got a hard copy. (If you don’t have access to a printer, no worries – just create your own practice page on a blank piece of paper.)

*Just a reminder that everyone is at a different place developmentally. Your child may find this enjoyable, or a challenge. I definitely don’t want to put any pressure on the children during this time. I’d say, as with all of this, let them guide you. We will get serious about letter writing in Pre-K next year, so this is just an introduction.

On the scanned S, the copy is light. You may need to write an S for your child to trace.

The letter S is tricky! It’s actually one of the last letters introduced in Pre-K, so no worries at all if it feels difficult for your child.

Here’s another Jim Gill song for today: Silly Dance Contest. Kids love it!

I’ve included a link to a story in the email today. Talk with your child about the characters in the story.

Math ~

Review Shapes.

Do you have CandyLand at home? Play this game with your child. Talk about shapes as you go. The cards are rectangles. The color blocks on the cards are squares. There are some circles on the board, etc.

Egg Counting and Number Recognition

Do you have some plastic Easter eggs at home?

Gather 10 plastic eggs (Don’t have eggs? That’s okay, use Legos, blocks, rocks, anything)

Practice counting using 1:1 correspondence – (move each egg as you count it)

Again, everyone is at a different place. Perhaps start with 4? Make some number cards. Hold up the 3 card. Have your child get 3 eggs. Continue with different numbers.

Now, go out in the yard and have a practice egg hunt (thanks to Donovan for this idea!)

Faith Formation ~

Begin with an opening prayer.

Talk about Palm Sunday.

Sister has sent along a little YouTube video, A Praise Parade for your child, which I am attaching to today’s email.

Sing a version of “If You’re Happy and You Know It,” shouting the last word of each line.  Perhaps do this outside? Wave a leaf or branch?

If you’re happy and you know it, shout, “Hello!”

If you’re happy and you know it, shout, “Hello!”

If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it.

If you’re happy and you know it, shout, “Hello!”

Continue with the following verses:

If you’re happy and you know it, shout, “Hosanna!”

If you’re happy and you know it, shout, “Welcome, Jesus!”

Say: Thank you, Jesus for your love. Amen.

In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

As an extra challenge, you may ask your child to cut out the S? No pressure here. Some kids will enjoy this and others will benefit from practicing cutting on straight lines.

Have your child write his/her name  on the S.

Listen to today’s story that has been sent along with the email. Talk about the characters. How did Elephant feel at different times throughout the story?

If you have access to Spotify, (or similar) check out this song which is perfect for today!

Jim Gill – Silly When you Stop – a very silly song that your child is sure to enjoy!

Math ~

Review squares vs. rectangles. Talk about circles vs. ovals. Find some items around the house or yard that are circles. Find some ovals.

Do you have sidewalk chalk? If so, draw some shapes out on the sidewalk. Have your child hop to the square, skip to the circle, sit on the oval, etc…

Today we will tackle number 2. Again, no pressure here. Just have your child give it a go and as always, “just do your best”. This is in the packet that was distributed at school, or I also emailed it to you. If you don’t have it and would like it, just let me know and I’m happy to resend. Of course, you don’t actually need to print the pages. You can guide your child with a blank piece of paper just as well.   And remember, we don’t normally introduce number writing in P3, so your child will officially learn this next year. This is an introduction for you to choose if you would like. (and 2s are tricky!)

Shape snacks – Maybe today, your child could have a sandwich for lunch, cut into triangles?

Faith Formation ~

Begin today’s lesson with a prayer of thanksgiving:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Thank you Jesus for _____________________________________.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Download the SEEDS pamphlet which is attached to today’s email. No need to print it. Just show your child the picture on the cover for discussion.

Ask: What do you see in the cover picture? A man is riding a donkey. That man is Jesus. A child offers the man a flower. Other people are waving branches from palm trees. Everyone looks very happy. The sky is blue; it looks warm and pleasant.

Now tell them the Gospel for this Sunday:

One Sunday, Jesus stopped outside the city of Jerusalem. He asked two disciples to bring him a donkey and her colt. Jesus’ friends put their cloaks over the animals. Jesus rode the donkey into the city of Jerusalem. People came out to welcome him and shouted: “Hosanna! Hosanna, Jesus!”

People put their cloaks on the road. Others cut branches from the trees and put them on the road too. They shouted: “Hosanna! Hosanna, Jesus! You come in God’s name.”

Say: Thank you, Jesus for your love. Amen.

In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Activity: Review the details of the story by talking about the feelings of Mary, Martha, Lazarus and Jesus. Ask your child to show feelings on their faces.  – happy feelings of sharing friendship, worry when Lazarus got sick, sadness when he died, happiness when Jesus reunited them all again.

Young children learn about friendship from parents, siblings, playmates, teachers, and classmates. Friendship involves caring, helping, communicating, and sharing experiences. Remind your child that Jesus had friends whom he cared for, and Jesus’ friends cared for him. Talk to your child about friendship and caring.

Closing Prayer: + Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to share our lives. He was sad and worried sometimes. He was happy too.  He has friends who loved him, just as we do. Thank you our family and friends. Amen.+

Review the letter R

Review the sound for R ~ /r/

Sing (tune – 3 Blind Mice)

R says /r/

R says /r/

Every letter makes a sound

R says /r/

Attached to today’s email is a large, blank R. Please have your child decorate the R. Perhaps they want to color it as a rainbow? Glue on pieces of ribbon?  Or just decorate it however he/she would like.

As an extra challenge, you may ask your child to cut out the R? The curve will be tricky, so you may need to help here, but the straight lines would be great cutting practice.

Read and discuss a fiction story –  Maybe you can find one with a character whose name begins with R?  Or perhaps R is in the title?  Ask, “My favorite character was ________________ because________________.  Who was your favorite character? Why”

If you have access to Spotify, (or similar) check out this song which is perfect for today!

Raffi – Robin in the Rain

Math ~

R is for Rectangle – Discuss the shape. 2 long sides, 2 short sides, 4 sides altogether.  Compare to a square.  Have your child color some (pre-drawn) red rectangles and squares.

Walk around the block.  “How many doors can you find? What shape are doors?”

Many of you were able to pick up your packets from school this week. If so, let’s tackle the 1 page today. Have your child identify and trace the number 1 with crayon. You can do “Rainbow Tracing”, by having your child trace it over and over with different colors to get the most out of the page. If you don’t have the packet, please print the one page from the attached packet.

Shape snacks – Find some square food items – Chex? Life Cereal? And some circle foods – Cheerios?  Have your child sort them by shape and then make a pattern with them.

Name writing.  As always, please refer to you letter formation chart. It’s better to take a bit more time now to learn each letter correctly. Don’t hesistate to contact me if your child is struggling with this.

Introduce the letter R

Sing our R song:

Listen to our Pete the Cat story that I sent via YouTube today. We’ve talked about how a good fiction story has a problem. Ask your child, “What was the problem in this story? How was it resolved?”

Math ~

This week, we’ll focus on shapes.

Get a white board or paper and draw and review:

Square, rectangle, circle, oval, triangle, diamond, star, heart

Put three shapes on a tray, (you can cut these out beforehand) cover them with a cloth, and take one away. Uncover it and have your child guess which shape is missing. Continue doing this with different shapes.

go for a out in the yard for a shape walk.   Help your child find:

Review the sound for Q ~ /kw/

Sing (tune – 3 Blind Mice)

Q says /kw/

Q says /kw/

Every letter makes a sound

Q says /kw/

Attached to today’s email is a Q practice page.  Two things you should know. First, we haven’t done worksheets like this in the past, so this is new. No pressure for sure. This will be great fun for some children, and for others, it will be a struggle.  I would say let your child be your guide in how much of this to do. Secondly, the scan didn’t come out quiet as dark as I would have hoped. Maybe really lightly write a Q starting at the arrow? Some kids won’t need this, others will. If you don’t have access to a printer, that’s okay. You can just make your own version of this.

Read and discuss a fiction story – Discuss the characters with your child. Who was his/her favorite character? Why?

Math ~

Outdoor patterns – Lets try AAB today. For example:

Pinecone – pinecone – pebble, pinecone – pinecone – pebble

Tuesday, March 17

Dear P3 Families,

Today we begin our online learning. Please bear with me as I make modifications going forward. For now, my hope is to keep things as familiar as possible. Please feel free to contact me with feedback as to how this is going, suggestions, etc.

I’ll be emailing our daily plans out each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning.

Remember that I’m available to you each day. Just send me an email anytime. And don’t forget about the FaceTime offer. Just email me and we can set up a time.

I am seeing lots of online resources.  My hope is that our children won’t spend too much of the days on electronic devices. But I’m going to send one, a free Scholastic link, which has some simple books along with follow up activities for you to enjoy with your child.

https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/support/learnathome.html

Do you have access to Spotify or Apple Music? If so, I am sure that your child would love to sing and dance to some of our favorite songs by Jim Gill.

Thank you for your patience during this time. I miss your children very much and am sad that we are not together right now.

Love to all!

Here is the Weekly Plan from Sister Juanita:

P3 – March 22, 2020 – 4th Sunday of Lent: The Man Born Blind

Parents may choose the following:

Read Gospel Story: John 9:1–41

Audio: https://www.biblegateway.com/resources/audio/

Video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ak7RrKjXWlI

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus opens the eyes of a man blind from birth. It is the man born blind who sees Jesus for who he really is. The man’s neighbors, parents, and teachers have sight but are blind to who Jesus is. In many parishes, those preparing for Baptism receive the Creed this week, and many of this week’s lessons help young people know the Creed.

Exploring the Gospel Message

Young children are proud of their ability to recognize objects and call them by name. Ask your child to name different colors and shapes in your house. Teaching them the names of the different flowers, birds, and animals around them is a concrete way to help children see the wonders of God’s Creation.

Dear Families,

Welcome to our first week of preschool!  It was such a pleasure getting to see all of you during Parent Night and Meet the Teacher Day.  We are so excited to get to teach your child!

Proper preschool attire and potty time –We ask that you be sure to send your child to school in clothing that they are able to take off and on by themselves for potty time.  Elastic waistbands are perfect for this age. We also ask that you talk to your child at home regarding help with wiping, as this is not something that we are able to assist them with at preschool.  Something that works well for a lot of children is to be sure to leave time for “potty time” at home before coming to school.  Some type of pull up diaper is perfectly fine if you are concerned they may have an accident.

September 11, 2018

Welcome to our first week of preschool!  It was such a pleasure getting to see all of you during Parent Night and Meet the Teacher Day.  We are so excited to get to teach your child!

Please refer to the “First Day Jitters” note that you received this week. It really does have some great tips for the first day of school.

CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES

This first week, we will primarily focus on establishing classroom routines, becoming familiar with the environment, and getting to know each other.

Tuesday, 9/11 at 8:45 am – Individual Photo Day– (feel free to join us as we walk up to the big school for the photos)

September 11, 2017

Dear Families,

Welcome to our first week of preschool! It was such a pleasure getting to meet all of you during Parent Night and Meet the Teacher Day. I am so excited to get to teach your child!

Please refer to the “First Day Jitters” note that was in your filer this week. It really does have some great tips for the first day of school.

Contact Information – Always feel free to contact me with questions or concerns that may arise. Email is best at tevans@holyrosaryws.org. The emergency phone number is (206)937-7255. If you need to get in touch with us during class, please call this number and the office will contact us via intercom.

Also, please sign up for the email blasts from the Big School. This is very important in case there is an emergency while your child is here.

mailing-list@holyrosaryws.org

Proper preschool attire and potty time –We ask that you be sure to send your child to school in clothing that they are able to take off and on by themselves for potty time. Elastic waistbands are perfect for this age. We also ask that you talk to your child at home regarding help with wiping, as this is not something that we are able to assist them with at preschool. Something that works well for a lot of children is to be sure to leave time for “potty time” at home before coming to school. Some type of pull up diaper is perfectly fine if you are concerned they may have an accident.

Water Bottles – Please send a full water bottle to school with your child each day.

Jackets/Toys – Please be sure to send your child to school with a jacket or sweater (clearly labeled with her or her name), as we will be going outside each day. We ask that your child please not bring toys to school. We have an amazing assortment of stimulating manipulatives and play items. We do not want any personal items lost or broken.

Family Photo – Please bring a photo of your family for our front bulletin board, if you have not already.

Individual Photos – Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, September 19 for individual photos. We will be heading up to the big school at 8:45 for our photos. (If you would like to walk up with us, you are most welcomeJ)

A photo form will be in your child’s file sometime over the next week. Please complete and bring it with you on photo day.

Parking – Unfortunately, we are no longer allowed to use the parking lot across the street from the preschool. This lot belongs to West Seattle Christian, and they have made a decision to limit the use of the lot to their parishioners only. They will be towing cars that are not registered with their parish. Please do not park there, even for a quick drop off. Thank you!

CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES

This first week, we will primarily focus on establishing classroom routines, becoming familiar with the environment, and getting to know each other.
