November 29, 2016

I hope that you have a lovely Thanksgiving with your family.  Many thanks to all of you for giving me the opportunity to conference with you this week. I thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with each of you. I feel truly blessed to be able to teach your dear children!

Holiday Giving – When you arrive at school next week, you will find a Christmas tree with gift tags in the foyer. This year, we are going to be helping out the West Seattle Food Bank in the form of a Board Game Drive. The tags will either request a board game for a particular age, or a pack of diapers, which will also go to the food bank. All of these items will be distributed to West Seattle families who will be so appreciative. If you would like to participate, please take a tag off the tree and return all gifts to the preschool by December 14.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM – Over the next few school days, we will be focusing time and energy on our Christmas program. All families are invited to attend on Wednesday, Dec. 14th at 6:30pm. Please arrive with your child (in their holiday attire) at 6:15pm and escort them into classroom 1A (just down the hall from the main school office). We will start the program promptly at 6:30pm, as we need to consider bedtimes for young ones. Altogether, the program will last no more than one hour.

You will find a sign up sheet in the foyer for treats for the holiday program. We are asking for 4 families from the 3/4s class to bring one dozen cookies to the show. We are also requesting napkins and cups. Thank you!

TREE LOT – Ho! Ho! Ho! Please be sure to visit the Holy Rosary School Tree Lot to purchase your Christmas tree this year! A portion of the proceeds benefit Hickman House, West Seattle Food Bank and the West Seattle Helpline, as well as the everyday operations of Holy Rosary School. Invite family, friends and neighbors to join us for our annual Christmas tradition in the parking lot behind Lanigan Gym (by the big toy).

ILLNESS – I want to remind you of the HRS illness policy. We do ask that your child stay home for 24 hours after a fever so that germs are not spread to other children. Thank you!

CLASSOOM ACTIVITIES

Literacy – This week’s letter is the letter: D

Please have your child bring a D item to share on Thursday.

Our songs, poems, and stories will focus on the letter D and Christmas.

Faith Formation –  We will discuss Advent. We will talk about the Advent wreath devotion as part of getting ready for Jesus’ birthday. Children will recognize ways we prepare for Christmas at home and at church.

Math – We will be counting and sorting fun holiday items.
